A 62-year-old woman in Little Rock, Arkansas, faces second-degree murder charges after police say she left an infant in a hot vehicle for more than eight hours.
Hope Jones, owner of a daycare at 8212 Frenchman Lane, was arrested Wednesday after officers responded to a report of an unresponsive infant. The child was found inside the facility and pronounced dead at the scene with a body temperature of 110 degrees, according to police.
Jones told investigators she picked up the boy at 6:20 a.m. from his foster mother and drove him to the daycare. She said she became distracted upon returning to work, left the child in the car seat, and failed to account for him during a headcount.
At the end of the day she discovered the infant unresponsive in her pickup truck and brought him inside in an attempt to help. Jones posted a $15,000 bond after her initial court appearance. Her next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 9.
