Meta has launched the Disney+ streaming app on its Quest virtual reality headsets, allowing US users to access a vast catalog of content. The integration includes support for high-quality formats like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. International rollout is planned for the near future.
Meta announced earlier this year at its Connect event that Disney+ would arrive on Quest headsets, and the app is now live for users in the United States. This addition enhances the VR entertainment options on the devices, particularly through the recently updated Horizon TV hub, which consolidates streaming services in one interface.
Quest owners can now stream Disney+ content directly in virtual reality, with enhanced audio and video capabilities. The platform supports Dolby Vision for a select number of titles in 4K HDR, while Disney+ Premium subscribers gain access to Dolby Atmos sound. Over 100 titles from Disney's library are compatible with 4K UHD and HDR, and certain Marvel and Pixar movies feature IMAX's expanded aspect ratio for an immersive viewing experience.
The app requires the latest version of Horizon OS and is currently restricted to US-based users. Meta has indicated that expansion to other countries will follow soon, broadening access to this popular streaming service in VR environments.
