Filipinos urged to defend 2016 Arbitral Award

Ten years after the Philippines prevailed in its case against China, Filipinos are urged to defend the 2016 Arbitral Award against disinformation.

At the National West Philippine Sea Summit in Conrad Manila in Pasay City, National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea spokesman Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela said the ruling is "final, it is binding and it remains the clearest affirmation of our rules-based maritime order under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea."

He stressed that the award must be explained and defended in classrooms, newsrooms and coastal communities.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government also announced work with 10 provinces including Palawan, Ilocos Norte and Zambales under Bayanihang Aksiyon para sa Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas to protect marine resources.
