In the ongoing Clermont ambush case, Brandon Pirela, 26, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on April 14, 2026, for his role in shooting at his girlfriend's friend. Lake County Circuit Judge Cary F. Rada imposed the sentence following Pirela's January 2024 jury conviction for attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and conspiracy to commit murder. This follows the March 2024 sentencing of his girlfriend, Arianna Gajraj, to 36 months for her involvement in luring the victim.
The attack took place around 1:53 a.m. on December 2023 on Peppermill Trail, where Pirela fired over a dozen shots from a handgun with an extended magazine at the victim's vehicle after Gajraj lured him there under the pretense of talking and smoking marijuana. The victim escaped despite 13 bullet strikes, with 21 spent 9mm casings recovered along with damage to nearby property.
Pirela and Gajraj had reconciled just two days prior after a months-long breakup. Gajraj pleaded guilty earlier, receiving credit for time served. Pirela's white Toyota Camry was linked to the scene via surveillance and license plate readers.
