Goodman Games releases Dragon Rider’s Primer for D&D

Goodman Games, known for Dungeon Crawl Classics, has launched a new sourcebook called Dragon Rider’s Primer on BackerKit to enhance dragon riding in Dungeons & Dragons games. The book offers detailed rules for aerial adventures compatible with 5E and 5.5E. It is currently in crowdfunding, running for 16 more days as of late February 2026.

Goodman Games is introducing Dragon Rider’s Primer, a crunchy supplement designed to integrate mounted flight into Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. The book provides options for flying mounts for characters and their adversaries, including 12 new subclasses, feats, spells, and backgrounds. These elements are compatible with both 5E and 5.5E editions, aiming to make aerial combat and travel a core part of gameplay.

The primer includes rules for mounted flying combat, long-distance aerial travel, and ways to incorporate these mechanics into existing or new campaigns. A variant cover by artist Hydro74 is available exclusively through the crowdfunding campaign, at conventions, or select game stores. Additional perks for backers include an exclusive play mat, pogs, and pawns for tabletop use.

As described in the project announcement: “This crunchy 5E sourcebook elevates your adventure to new heights with flying mounts for all characters and their adversaries! ... Within these pages you’ll find everything you need to make mounted flight an integral part of your 5E game experience. Be warned! This tome is a feast of aerial character options, new rules, and new magic that will cast your campaign skyward forever more.”

Beta rules are already available for download, allowing players to test the mechanics immediately. The crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit began recently and will continue for 16 days from its February 25, 2026, launch.
