Google previews Gemini AI features for TV at CES

Google has showcased new Gemini AI integrations for its TV platform at CES 2026, offering voice-controlled settings adjustments and enhanced photo features. Demonstrations highlighted practical tools alongside more creative but less essential options. The updates aim to make smart TVs more interactive for everyday users.

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Google provided a preview of upcoming Gemini AI enhancements for Google TV devices. The event, running from January 4 to 9, featured demonstrations at the Encore Villas, where product lead Salahuddin Choudhary explained the capabilities.

One standout feature allows users to adjust TV settings via voice commands without interrupting their viewing. For instance, Choudhary asked, “Can you boost the dialogue?” during a golf game demo, and Gemini switched modes seamlessly. It can also disable motion smoothing, a common user tweak.

The 'deep dive' function transforms simple queries into educational sessions. When Choudhary requested an explanation of the Northern Lights for an eighth grader, Gemini displayed a basic overview with images and videos, plus a 'Dive deeper' option for a narrated, illustrated science tour. This could assist parents with children's questions on complex topics.

Google Photos integration deepens, enabling easy access to personal images on the TV screen. Choudhary pulled up beach trip photos, suggesting one as a screensaver and using the Remix tool to apply an oil painting effect. For custom edits, Nano Banana converts photos to cartoons on request, while Veo generates short animations, such as a glitchy clip of a person playing fetch with a dog from an image.

Video creation requires a Gemini subscription, but most features come with a Google TV purchase. While settings and educational tools seem practical, photo manipulations may appeal more to casual users or children, enhancing the living room experience for Gemini enthusiasts.
