Mets call up Tommy Pham for Dodgers series

The New York Mets have called up veteran outfielder Tommy Pham from the minors ahead of their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The move comes during a five-game losing streak marked by offensive struggles. In a corresponding roster change, infielder Ronny Mauricio was optioned to Triple-A.

New York announced the promotion of 38-year-old Tommy Pham on Monday in Los Angeles. The Mets, who signed him to a minor-league deal on March 27, hope the outfielder provides an offensive boost. Pham recently played five games with Single-A St. Lucie, batting 2-for-12 with a double and an RBI. This marks his second stint with the Mets, following a 2023 season where he hit .268 with 10 home runs and an .820 OPS in 79 games before a trade to the Diamondbacks. Since his 2014 debut with St. Louis, Pham has appeared for 10 major-league clubs, tying for the most among active players. His 2025 performance with the Pirates included a .245/.330/.370 slash line, 10 homers, and 52 RBIs. The Mets have averaged just 1.6 runs per game during their skid, which started after star outfielder Juan Soto went on the injured list with a right calf strain. They were shut out twice in a sweep by the Athletics at Citi Field. Mauricio, called up recently as a backup infielder, appeared in two games, going 1-for-4 with a walk-off hit against the D-backs before his demotion. Pham could start as early as Monday against Dodgers left-hander Justin Wrobleski, against whom he owns a career .802 OPS.
