Nintendo Music adds Apple CarPlay and web support

Nintendo Music launched an update on Tuesday that adds support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a web browser player and a tablet-optimized app. The changes expand access to the service's video game soundtracks for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Users can now listen to tracks such as Mario Kart music while driving.

The update rolled out Tuesday and introduces several new ways to access the library of game soundtracks. Nintendo said the service remains available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. The music service is part of a broader effort by the company to extend its video game properties beyond consoles. Recent releases include the Super Mario Galaxy movie, with a film based on The Legend of Zelda currently in production. Subscribers can continue using the updated service on original Nintendo Switch hardware without needing to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2, which will carry a $50 higher price later this year.
