Pebble announces Index 01 ring for voice notes

Nearly a decade after its original smartwatch venture ended, Pebble has returned with the Index 01, a simple ring designed solely for capturing voice notes. Priced at $75 during preorder, the device uses local AI on your phone to process recordings into actions like setting reminders or creating notes, without any cloud involvement or charging requirements. Shipping begins in March 2026.

Pebble, now under Core Devices, is reviving its brand with new wearables following the collapse of its smartwatch empire almost ten years ago. Alongside evolutions like the Pebble Core Duo 2 and Core Time 2, the company unveiled the Index 01 on December 9, 2025—a ring focused exclusively on voice note capture, eschewing the health tracking and frequent charging typical of smart rings.

The Index 01 features a Bluetooth radio, microphone, hearing aid battery, and a single physical button. Worn on the index finger, users press the button with their thumb to record hands-free notes, releasing it to stop. This tactile control ensures recording only occurs when activated, with the company emphasizing its reliability. The non-rechargeable battery provides 12-14 hours of total recording time, estimated to last about two years with 10-20 short daily notes. Once depleted, users return the ring for recycling.

Recordings transmit via Bluetooth to an Android or iOS phone, where open-source software converts them to text and feeds them into a local large language model (LLM). No data leaves the device unless users opt for online backup. Initial actions include creating or adding to notes, setting reminders, alarms, timers, and controlling music playback. The design supports hacking, with webhook integration, model context protocol (MCP), and an open-source LLM for custom local functions.

Available in polished silver, polished gold, and matte black, the Index 01 fits US sizes 6 through 13. Preorders opened at $75, rising to $99 post-preorder, with worldwide shipping starting March 2026. Pebble's approach avoids subscriptions and data collection, prioritizing simplicity and privacy.

Was die Leute sagen

Initial reactions on X to Pebble's Index 01 ring are predominantly positive, highlighting its affordable $75 preorder price, years-long battery life without charging, local AI processing for privacy, open-source app, and simple voice note capture functionality. Users from tech journalists and enthusiasts praise the single-purpose design and lack of subscriptions. Some express mild skepticism about the non-rechargeable battery requiring recycling after 2 years.
