The Kansas City Royals scored in all eight innings Monday for a 15-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Kauffman Stadium. Cristopher Sánchez allowed nine runs in 3 1/3 innings. The win marked a rare offensive display for the Royals.
The Royals tagged Sánchez for six runs in the first inning alone. They added three more before he exited after allowing 12 hits and three home runs. Sánchez entered the game with a 2.00 ERA and left with a 2.62 mark.
Tyler Tolbert recorded five hits, including a home run, while Luke Maile hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat of the season. Seven Royals had multi-hit games in the 22-hit outburst.
Royals manager Matt Quatrano noted the team’s persistence through a difficult stretch. Sánchez said via interpreter that the outing was unexpected given how he felt physically. The result gave Kansas City its first series win against Philadelphia since June.
