The incident occurred on February 25 in Lloydminster, where thieves broke into a promotion vehicle and stole several items, including the ring. Davey Boy Smith Jr. announced the recovery on social media after it was identified during a pawn attempt.
On February 25, 2026, during Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) 17th Anniversary tour, a break-in targeted a trailer used to transport equipment at a hotel in Lloydminster, located on the Saskatchewan-Alberta border. The theft happened in the early hours while talent and staff were staying overnight. Several items were stolen from Davey Boy Smith Jr.'s bag, including his travel bag, wrestling gear, personal jewelry, a Hart Foundation leather vest worn by his father during his career, a CWE Tag Team Championship belt, and the WWE Hall of Fame ring.
The ring was awarded to the family of Davey Boy Smith, known as the British Bulldog, following his posthumous induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021 as part of the 2020 class. It holds significant personal value due to its connection to Smith's legacy. An update from CWE indicated that the vest, ring gear, and championship belt were recovered, but the Hall of Fame ring initially remained unaccounted for.
WWE star Natalya, part of the extended Hart family, addressed the theft publicly on social media, offering a $5,000 USD reward for the return of the items with no questions asked. She stated, “These are valuable items of my cousin’s and his late father’s ring gear. I’ll personally offer a $5,000 USD reward if the items are returned. No questions asked.” Georgia Smith, daughter of Davey Boy Smith, also reacted online, describing the loss as deeply upsetting for the family.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police launched an investigation into the break-in and sought information to aid recovery. On February 27, 2026, Davey Boy Smith Jr. announced the ring's recovery via Facebook: “GOOD NEWS!!… my dads @wwe Hall of Fame ring has been FOUND!!! Someone tried to pawn it, and the police were called! Thank you all for your help and getting the word spread on this matter.” Despite the incident, CWE confirmed the tour would proceed as planned, with events continuing across Saskatchewan.
