A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly firing shots at another vehicle during a road rage incident in Memphis. The event began when one driver backed out of a driveway and escalated on nearby streets.
Clinton Nash has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, having prohibited weapons, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Court records show he is held in the Shelby County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
The incident occurred on July 11 at about 7:30 p.m. A victim was backing out of a driveway with two adults and a child when a red or maroon Ford Focus approached closely. The vehicles later met again near Cottonwood Road, where the Focus swerved in front and a passenger displayed a gun.
Officers responded around 7:40 p.m. to the 4700 block of Cottonwood Road. Nash allegedly exited the Focus in a parking lot at Cottonwood Road and South Perkins Road, firing multiple rounds from a Glock pistol modified with a conversion device into the victim's vehicle. No one was injured.
The Memphis Police Department linked the shooting to the earlier road rage encounter. Nash was arrested on Monday and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
