US and UK release roadmap to align tokenized finance rules

The United States and the United Kingdom have released a 10-point roadmap to coordinate oversight of tokenized assets and stablecoins. The plan seeks to reduce regulatory differences between the world's two largest financial markets.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and HM Treasury issued the recommendations Tuesday through the Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future. The document outlines steps for regulators including the SEC, CFTC, FCA and Bank of England to work more closely on tokenized securities, cross-border stablecoin activity and industry-led tokenization pilots.

The roadmap does not create new rules. It identifies areas for cooperation such as common approaches to settling tokenized securities and possible use of stablecoins or tokenized money market funds as collateral.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the recommendations reflect the strength of the U.S. and U.K. financial markets and their shared commitment to supporting economic growth, innovation and competition. The two governments also issued a joint statement backing cross-border stablecoin activity with the private sector playing a central role.
