A rupture in a potable water pipe caused flooding and the waste of thousands of liters in Iztapalapa last Saturday.
Mayor Aleida Alavez Ruiz reported that the incident occurred in the Unidad Habitacional Vicente Guerrero area along Anillo Periférico. The break in a 12-inch pipe mobilized staff from the borough's Urban Services department. Alavez Ruiz stated that the leak was expected to be resolved on the same day as the report. Traffic police officers alerted authorities to the strong outflow of water. The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection and the Heroic Fire Department of Mexico City coordinated actions to reduce water levels. The leak took place amid the hot season and water supply problems in the capital.
