Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has called for strict coordination of voluntary service and development works to ensure sustainable community benefits during the summer season.
Mayor Adanech Abiebie reviewed the performance of summer voluntary service, the Green Legacy initiative, house construction and social support programmes with city leaders. She noted variations in performance across sub-cities and institutions and stressed that future work must be guided by strict coordination.
The mayor called for accelerated house construction, cleaning of drainage ditches, new building projects and proper maintenance of green areas developed at significant cost. She said entities responsible for damaging roads and blocking ditches with construction waste must fix the problems promptly and face accountability.
She directed that seedling planting exceed targets with attention to quality and that voluntary service and city cleaning become part of community culture. Special focus will also be given to summer remedial classes for students and adult education programmes, she added.
