WWE star AJ Lee has described her return to the promotion after a decade away as a challenge for her mental health. Speaking on a recent podcast, she explained the strategies she uses to manage bipolar disorder while navigating the demands of the spotlight.
AJ Lee returned to WWE last year following a 10-year hiatus. On the State of Mind podcast hosted by Maurice Benard, she said the past year served as a test of her well-being.
"So [this year] was like the test," Lee said. "[It was] scary, but what's very much helped me [is] disassociation. You've got to go somewhere else."
Lee noted that stress, negativity, and physical demands can trigger depressive episodes. She emphasized maintaining a workable schedule that allows time for sleep, medication, and therapy.
Lee lost the Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42. She has not appeared on television since competing in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, and her return date remains unclear.
