Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav visited BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on Tuesday, after she suffered burn injuries while setting his effigy ablaze during a protest in Bahraich. Yadav extended wishes for her speedy recovery and emphasized social harmony. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya also enquired about her health.
BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal suffered burns to her face while setting fire to Akhilesh Yadav's effigy during a protest in Bahraich in support of the Centre's Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Witnesses said flames suddenly flared up. She received initial treatment in Bahraich before being shifted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow.
Doctors reported that around 75 per cent of her face is affected, including 60 per cent burns to parts of her ear and forehead, along with injuries to eyebrows, nose, lips and eyes, with one eye partially impacted. Her condition is stable, though the full extent of injuries may take 48 to 72 hours to manifest.
Yadav shared pictures on social media, stating, “We don’t want flames to burn within society. We want a shower of harmony to prevail. Politics is in its own place, and human relationships have theirs.” Her husband Ashok Jaiswal described the visit as a gesture of “human sensitivity and democratic courtesy”.
Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “We came to check on her health. She is receiving good treatment. Doctors have been asked to ensure proper care.” UP Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and other BJP leaders have also visited, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to her over phone.
