Former Formula 1 driver Anthony Davidson says Mercedes reliability problems have opened a path for Ferrari to challenge for the championship. The comments follow the British Grand Prix, the ninth round of the 2026 season.
Charles Leclerc won the race at Silverstone for Ferrari. George Russell finished second for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton took third in the other Ferrari.
Kimi Antonelli, the Mercedes driver leading the championship, finished 15th after a dislodged wheel shield and a track limits penalty. Russell now trails Antonelli by 25 points in the drivers' standings.
Davidson told the Sky Sports F1 Show that Ferrari could rely on its "bulletproof" cars for the rest of the season. Mercedes has won seven of the first nine grands prix but has also suffered retirements for both Russell and Antonelli.
In the constructors' championship Mercedes leads with 333 points, Ferrari has 255 and McLaren sits third on 179.
