Mexican authorities reported on Friday, July 31, the arrest of Ramón Ángel ‘N’, alias ‘El R1’, and his alleged connection to two high-profile murders.
During President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning conference, Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch detailed that ‘El R1’ ordered and financed the murder of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1, 2025, at the Festival of the Candles.
García Harfuch added that ‘El R1’'s son, Francisco ‘N’, had a romantic relationship with influencer Valeria Márquez and had threatened her on several occasions. According to investigations, Francisco asked his father to order the young woman’s feminicide; she was murdered on May 13, 2025, in Zapopan, Jalisco.
The official noted that 31 people have now been detained in the Manzo case and that Francisco ‘N’ remains at large. The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office will be responsible for presenting evidence against both in the feminicide.
Grecia Quiroz, mayor of Uruapan and Manzo’s widow, stated that the arrest is progress but much remains to be clarified in the investigation.
