Atletico Madrid has publicly rejected a €150 million bid from Real Madrid for striker Julian Alvarez and responded with mocking social media posts. The move follows similar interest from Barcelona.
Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that its board had offered €150 million for the federative rights of Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid rejected the proposal, citing the player's release clause. In a series of posts on X, Atletico ridiculed the bid and compared Real Madrid unfavorably to Barcelona. One post stated the club was “even funnier than @FCBarcelona_es” and clarified that offers for Alvarez were neither reviewed nor considered. Atletico had previously issued satirical transfer messages aimed at Barcelona after reports of interest in Alvarez last week. Those posts included a mock offer for winger Lamine Yamal consisting of concert tickets, a newspaper subscription and sunflower seeds. Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 for £81 million and has scored 49 goals in 106 appearances.
