Bar owner arrested for involvement in São Paulo police officer's death

The owner of a bar in São Paulo was arrested on Tuesday (20) as a suspect in the death of Corporal Fabrício Gomes Santana. He is the sixth person detained in the case, which involves an alleged 'crime tribunal' at the establishment. The arrest took place in the south zone of the capital.

Gilvan Soares da Silva, 56, the bar owner, was arrested by military police on Tuesday afternoon (20) in Jardim Novo Horizonte, south zone of São Paulo. He had a 30-day temporary arrest warrant issued by the Justice. The report could not contact his defense.

Corporal Fabrício Gomes Santana, 40, was killed after getting involved in a drug-related argument. His last contact with a family member was on Thursday morning (8), when he mentioned a fight from the previous night. His body was found buried on a farm in Embu-Guaçu, Greater São Paulo, on Sunday (11), thanks to a tip that led police to the site.

According to the investigation by Civil and Military Police, Santana was taken by criminals to Silva's bar, where he was allegedly assaulted and subjected to a judgment by the so-called 'crime tribunal,' resulting in a death sentence. Delegate Vitor Santos de Jesus, from Itapecerica da Serra Police Station in charge of the case, explained that the corporal was socializing with a friend near his son's house when he reprimanded a man for using cocaine on site.

The man initially apologized and left on a motorcycle but later reported the PM's friend to drug trafficking leaders in the Horizonte Azul area, citing the presence of a police officer. A call demanded the friend's and Santana's presence at Silva's bar, where the corporal was disarmed and taken for judgment by the criminals. Silva allegedly tried to flee when approached but was detained and taken to the Itapecerica da Serra police station. So far, six people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the crime.
