Biomedical engineering professor Chen Weiqiang joins Nanjing University

Award-winning professor Chen Weiqiang has left New York University to join Nanjing University’s School of Biomedical Engineering. A welcome ceremony was held for him at the Suzhou campus on June 11.

Chen previously served as professor and director of graduate education at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Nanjing University Assistant President Jiang Tian highlighted Chen’s work in cellular biomechanics and organ chips during the introduction.

Jiang stated that Chen chose to join during his peak academic years, calling the decision moving. Chen earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Nanjing University in 2005 and a master’s in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008.

The move returns Chen to his alma mater after years at overseas institutions including Purdue University and the University of Michigan.
