The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts cloudy to rainy weather across most of Indonesia this Sunday. In Jakarta, overcast conditions will dominate from morning to afternoon, with light rain possible in the south during the evening. The DKI Jakarta government is preparing for coastal flooding until January 7 with various preventive measures.
In the first weekend of 2026, BMKG forecaster Afif S stated that light rain is expected in Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, and Bandar Lampung. Cloudy to overcast conditions are likely in Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, and Palembang, while thunderstorms need caution in Pangkal Pinang.
On Java, including Jakarta, most areas will see light rain and overcast skies. Specifically for Jakarta, overcast weather is forecast from morning to afternoon. In the afternoon, West, Central, East Jakarta, North, and Thousand Islands will be overcast again, while South Jakarta has light rain. At night, West, South, North, and Thousand Islands overcast; East and Central cloudy. Temperatures range from 23-29 degrees Celsius, with winds of 1-20 km/h.
Elsewhere, light rain is predicted in most of Kalimantan, with thunderstorms in Tanjung Selor and overcast in Banjarmasin. Bali and Nusa Tenggara overcast in Denpasar and Mataram. Sulawesi mostly light rain, thunderstorms in Mamuju, and moderate rain in Palu. Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua also potential light rain.
Afif S urged the public to remain vigilant against extreme weather. Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency, led by Head Ika Agustin Ningrum, is preparing emergency dikes at Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Sunda Kelapa, Jalan RE Martadinata, Marunda Pulo, and in front of Jakarta International Stadium. Infrastructure including stationary and mobile pumps, and water gates at Marina, Pluit Reservoir, Kali Asin, Ancol, PIK Junction, Muara Angke, Pasar Ikan, and Tanjungan are on standby. The Blue Force Task Unit is ready for emergencies.
Seven areas are at risk of rob flooding: Tanjungan, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Marunda, Pasar Ikan, Tanjung Priok-Kalibaru, and Ancol. The DKI Provincial Government advises caution and monitoring via bpbd.jakarta.go.id or the JAKI app.
