Charli XCX has addressed speculation surrounding her upcoming album, stressing that it is not a rock project. The record, titled Music, Fashion, Film, is scheduled for release on July 24.
In a new interview, the singer clarified that she never described the album as rock music. She said the project reflects her own creative process with collaborators A. G. Cook and Finn Keane rather than fitting into traditional genre categories.
Charli also responded to her lyric on the lead single Rock Music that suggested the dancefloor is dead. She explained that the line referred to her personal experience with her previous album Brat and highlighted recent strong releases in dance and electronic music.
The album cover features musician John Cale, designer Marc Jacobs and director Martin Scorsese. So far two tracks have been released, Rock Music and SS26. Charli is set to headline Reading and Leeds festivals in August.
