Government Communication Service Minister Desta Tesfahuen Gobazay told reporters in Addis Ababa that conference tourism has experienced significant growth in recent years and holds substantial potential to improve Ethiopia's international image.
"Conference tourism has high returns for enhancing the country's image," the minister said. He noted it as a key pillar of economic reforms, with ongoing efforts to expand tourism infrastructure and attract visitors.
Ethiopia is adequately prepared to host this week's 16th African Risk and Safety Summit, according to the minister. Addis Ababa has hosted numerous conferences, including 153 national and international ones in the 2017 fiscal year.
The summit, set for Megabit 30 and Miyazia 1, 2018, in Addis Ababa, showcases Ethiopia's capabilities in risk management and humanitarian support. Media professionals attending tourism sites will promote the nation's image.
