Ethiopia records strong growth in tourism sector

Ethiopia has registered 19 UNESCO heritage sites and earned over 2 billion dollars from 1.2 million foreign visitors in nine months.

Addis Ababa hosted more than 150 continental and international conferences in the past year. The United Nations Tourism Centre placed Ethiopia among the world's fastest-growing tourism destinations for 2025 and 2026.

In the first nine months of the budget year, domestic tourism generated nearly 60 billion birr. The World Travel and Tourism Council highlighted a 15 percent growth in visitor numbers for 2025.

The government has identified tourism as one of five economic pillars and stepped up heritage protection and infrastructure projects.
