Conor McGregor lost to Max Holloway in 69 seconds at UFC 329 after suffering a knee injury during the fight. McGregor and his coach have denied any pre-existing injury.
Conor McGregor stated he was healthy heading into the bout. "I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight," he said.
His coach John Kavanagh also addressed the matter and dismissed rumors of prior issues. McGregor described the sudden injury as coming out of nowhere and left him in shock.
Reactions from other fighters followed the loss. Islam Makhachev posted "Conor beat Conor congrats Max." Terence Crawford wrote "It’s crazy when they talk shit to me God punish them."
Chael Sonnen commented that McGregor "cannot main event" UFC cards going forward. Sean Strickland suggested the injury might relate to long-term steroid use, while Carlos Prates claimed he would be a difficult opponent for McGregor.
