The Daily Beast published a short item about Evita Duffy-Alfonso’s announcement that she had given birth to a baby girl, prompting criticism from some conservatives who argued the coverage was inappropriate given the timing.
The Daily Beast published a piece titled “Trump Goon’s Nepo Baby Announces Birth of Daughter,” by reporter Annabella Rosciglione. The article was published May 28, 2026 and updated May 29, 2026.
In the item, The Daily Beast described Evita Duffy-Alfonso as the eldest of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s nine children with his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a host on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends Weekend.” It reported that Duffy-Alfonso posted photos with her newborn and wrote “Obsessed” in the announcement.
The Daily Beast also referenced a separate, earlier incident it said went viral in which Duffy-Alfonso objected to going through a metal detector at an airport while pregnant and later criticized the Transportation Security Administration after she received a pat-down she requested.
The Daily Beast further noted that Duffy-Alfonso’s husband, Michael Alfonso, is running for Congress as a Republican in Wisconsin in the House district the transportation secretary previously represented, and that Alfonso has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
In a May 30 report, The Daily Wire said the Daily Beast item sparked backlash on social media from conservative commentators, who criticized the language used in the headline and the decision to publish the story shortly after the birth announcement.
