The accident occurred in May on the grounds of Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. The woman was heading to visit her husband, who was admitted there, when she was hit by a car backing up on a one-way street. She suffered severe injuries and later died at the hospital.
The driver, a man in his 40s, is now charged with causing another's death and careless driving in traffic, according to the indictment from Gothenburg District Court. Police investigated the incident as a suspected violation of traffic laws.
The driver's lawyer, Björn Hurtig, commented: “My client feels very bad about what happened, but denies that he has acted criminally.”
