Egypt's Ministry of Finance is moving forward with plans for 800 public-private partnership schools and 30 European-accredited technical schools, according to a senior official.
Atter Hanoura, head of the Central PPP Unit at the Ministry of Finance, outlined the initiatives during the fifth Annual Education Investment Summit. The 800 schools build on an earlier project that began in 2019 and 2020, which delivered the first phase with average annual tuition of EGP 52,000. The second phase will start with 57 schools as land becomes available.
The 30 technical schools will follow European standards and receive accreditation to allow graduates to work directly in European labour markets. The government is finalising the contract for the first such school and is developing six additional technical education projects.
Hanoura also said the ministry is examining expansion of the Nile Schools model through public-private partnerships. Under the overall approach, the government provides land at nominal rates while private partners finance, build and operate the facilities under performance contracts.
