Eight people suspected of belonging to a drug trafficking network were arrested on Monday in Grenoble during a large-scale police operation.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced on Thursday that the operation had mobilized around one hundred police officers, including the RAID unit, and targeted a network based in the Villeneuve neighborhood. The suspects are charged with drug trafficking and, for several of them, with sequestration involving acts of torture and barbarity.
Around thirty additional arrests took place in parallel across the agglomeration during street operations. These arrests occur amid a territorial conflict between drug traffickers that has raged since the end of 2025 and already claimed ten lives between December and January.
A further escalation took place on May 29 with the sequestration of a fifty-year-old woman linked to a trafficker. Seven young men, including two minors, were indicted and placed in provisional detention at the end of June to prevent further violence.
