Emmanuel Grégoire courts Sophia Chikirou ahead of Paris municipals

In Paris, socialist Emmanuel Grégoire is already trying to woo Insoumise deputy Sophia Chikirou ahead of the municipal elections. This approach is part of a strategy to counter the breakthrough of La France insoumise (LFI) and prevent a left-wing alliance that could cost the PS the race against the right. An Ifop-Fiducial poll for Le Figaro and Sud Radio suggests a strong LFI list could advance to the second round.

The Paris municipal elections promise tension for the Socialist Party (PS), which fears above all the rise of La France insoumise (LFI). Emmanuel Grégoire, a socialist figure and potential candidate, is pursuing an offensive strategy to stem this breakthrough. According to Le Figaro's indiscrets, he is already "courting" Sophia Chikirou, LFI deputy for Paris and close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, in hopes of defusing left-wing tensions.

A Le Figaro analysis highlights the stakes: if the Insoumise list secures over 10% in the first round, it could advance to the second, potentially forcing the rest of the left to ally with Mélenchon's supporters to block the right. Grégoire aims to capitalize on the clash between Rachida Dati (LR) and Pierre-Yves Bournazel (miscellaneous right) to strengthen his position. An Ifop-Fiducial poll for Le Figaro and Sud Radio confirms this concern, showing LFI's momentum could shift the balance of power.

This maneuver comes amid left-wing divisions, with the PS pushing a digital strategy against LFI. Internal criticisms also weigh on Chikirou amid controversies, but this does not stop Grégoire from attempting a tactical rapprochement. The stakes are clear: preventing a right-wing victory in the capital.
