A major fire struck the Pasar Jiung area in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday night. Hundreds of personnel were deployed for evacuation and firefighting.
The fire was first reported at 20:55 WIB on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Jalan Kemayoran Gempol, RT 02/RW 05, Kelurahan Kebon Kosong. Flames quickly spread to semi-permanent buildings around Pasar Jiung.
Head of DKI Jakarta Fire Department Bayu Meghantara said 33 fire units and 100 personnel were deployed from 21:05 WIB. Police chief Kombes Pol Reynold Hutagalung added that a total of 200 combined personnel from Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat, the military, local government, and Brimob assisted with evacuations.
Six residents suffered shortness of breath from smoke and were treated at Rumah Sakit Hermina Kemayoran. The suspected cause is an electrical short circuit, though an official investigation continues. Firefighting and cooling operations were ongoing into early Tuesday.
