A 34-year-old man sentenced to 182 years in prison for robbery, theft, and illegal weapon possession was recaptured by military police in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, on Tuesday. He had been on the run since March after escaping from Guariba Progression Center during a temporary release. The Public Security Secretariat confirmed he faces multiple legal proceedings.
Military police located the fugitive during a patrol by the 11th Special Police Actions Battalion (Baep) team in the Quintino Facci II neighborhood of Ribeirão Preto. When approached, the 34-year-old man gave a false name and contradictory statements, according to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP).
He escaped from Guariba Progression Center in March during a temporary release known as "saidinha." The 182-year sentence stems from robbery, theft, and illegal firearm possession crimes committed between 2010 and 2016.
The SSP states that the suspect faces seven inquiries and 14 proceedings for similar offenses. He is also accused of a homicide committed as a minor. Following recapture, he remained at the disposal of the courts.
