Gabriel Attal, leader of Renaissance, is gearing up to ramp up his campaign for the 2027 presidential election, despite internal criticism of his strategy. He is hosting a non-partisan event on January 27 at the Palais Brongniart in Paris, featuring union leaders, business figures, and civil society representatives. The move aims to broaden his appeal following the municipal elections.
Gabriel Attal, a deputy from Hauts-de-Seine and leader of the Renaissance deputies, faces criticism within his party over his political line and strategy. Despite these doubts, he plans to accelerate his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, fully entering the campaign after the municipal elections.
In recent months, Attal has been compelled to show solidarity with the executive, despite his reservations about Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu's approach. As the budget debate nears its end, he has voiced impatience to move on. On January 17, in Le Parisien, he lamented the « lamentable spectacle and total absence of direction (…) resulting from the political situation generated by the dissolution [of the National Assembly, in June 2024]. Once again ».
His ties with the President of the Republic have been severed since the dissolution. The day after Lecornu backed away from his promise not to use Article 49.3, Attal stated during his parliamentary group's meeting: « This 49.3 on an imposed budget marks the end of the five-year term. We must look to the future. »
To push forward, Attal is organizing a major event on Tuesday, January 27, at the Palais Brongniart in Paris, billed as non-partisan. The gathering will include union leaders, business representatives, and civil society figures, aiming to expand his political reach and overcome current partisan constraints.
