Google is introducing new features to increase transparency around the use of generative AI in advertisements. The updates apply to ads on Search, YouTube and Discover. Disclosures will appear in the My Ad Center panel.
The company is adding a section titled 'How this ad was made' to its My Ad Center panel. This information will be available globally for relevant ads.
When Google's own AI tools are used to create or edit an ad, the disclosure will be added automatically. For ads made with other tools, advertisers can use a control to indicate generative AI involvement.
In some regions the toggle may trigger a visible label on the ad itself, depending on local rules. Google said the changes aim to help users understand ads while giving advertisers tools to meet industry standards.
"We want to help people better understand the ads they see, while providing advertisers with straightforward tools to navigate evolving industry standards," the company stated in its announcement.
