Following President Prabowo Subianto's December launch of a Rp60 trillion reconstruction initiative, the government has formed a National Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, led by Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, with its main operations center in hardest-hit Banda Aceh. Assurances include no cuts to Aceh's Rp1.7 trillion regional budget, amid calls for unity in recovery efforts.
Building on the reconstruction task force announced by President Prabowo Subianto on December 15, 2025, which addressed land acquisition and funding barriers with Rp60 trillion from APBN efficiencies, the central government has now established the National Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Post-Disaster. Led by Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, with deputy Richard Tampubolon and a steering council under the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the task force targets recovery across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, where floods and landslides have displaced thousands and damaged infrastructure.
The main post in Banda Aceh will coordinate all stages from emergency response to reconstruction. Director General Safrizal ZA of the Home Affairs Ministry noted it will act as an 'integrated control center' for directed efforts.
At a January 11, 2026, coordination meeting in Banda Aceh, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad connected with President Prabowo and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, securing approval to maintain Aceh's 2026 Regional Transfer Funds at Rp1.7 trillion (including Rp1.2 trillion already disbursed). Purbaya confirmed, "The President agrees to restore it as in the previous year."
The task force aims to normalize government operations before Ramadan and complete recovery before Eid al-Fitr. Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak and PDIP Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri urged mutual cooperation and unity among cadres.
