Government proposes ending Autopistas del Café concession after 2027 contract

President Gustavo Petro proposed that the Autopistas del Café concession should not continue after 2027. The move aims to return control to the nation and potentially eliminate tolls.

President Gustavo Petro stated that the concession must return to the nation once the current contract ends. He proposed buying out the remaining concession until 2027 or taking over tolls with the national budget.

"My proposal is that the Autopistas del Café concession should no longer continue after the contract is finished", Petro said.

The community began blockades at the Bernardo, Santagueda, Tarapacá 2 tolls and the Guayabal crossing due to rejection of the charges. Local representatives such as Santiago Osorio criticized possible extension plans by business groups.

Transport Minister María Fernanda Rojas confirmed that ANI teams and other ministries will hold technical roundtables on Tuesday to dialogue with protesters.
