The Harari regional communication office stated that Shewaled Kibre Be'al has been celebrated for twenty years among Harar residents. The festival preserves their culture and identity from birth to the present. Its guiding principle is “Shewaled for our national unity and our tourism development.” Celebrations include cultural events, festivals, traditional dances, art exhibitions, and development project inaugurations. Guests arrive from various parts of Ethiopia. It began on Hidar 25, 2016 E.C. and is registered by UNESCO as an intangible world cultural heritage. Among traditional festivals promoting brotherhood, it serves as a cultural bridge in eastern Ethiopia, fostering people-to-people ties. The event also boosts the tourism sector.
