Following its January premiere announcement, Hulu has unveiled the first trailer for The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale based on Margaret Atwood's novel. The footage features returning star Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia and introduces new cast members navigating Gilead, hinting at persistent resistance against the regime.
The trailer reveals that Gilead endures beyond the events of The Handmaid's Tale, with internal challenges to its oppression continuing. It centers on a coming-of-age story for young women indoctrinated in Gilead, facing arranged marriages and servitude as they seek allies for freedom—a narrative building on the show's previously announced synopsis.
Ann Dowd reprises Aunt Lydia, interacting with Chase Infiniti (Presumed Innocent) as Agnes and newcomer Lucy Halliday as Daisy, who arrives from Canada. Aunt Lydia's line, "Agnes MacKenzie, this is Daisy. Make her feel comfortable," suggests Daisy's potential ties to resistance like the Mayday network from the original series.
The trailer also spotlights other new cast including Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World), Mattea Conforti (Power), Isolde Ardies (Wayward), Shechinah Mpumlwana (Lyla in the Loop), and Birva Pandya (The Umbrella Academy). Hulu shared an official poster alongside the footage.
As previously announced, The Testaments premieres April 8, 2026, on Hulu with the first three episodes at launch, followed by weekly releases.
