Illinois man charged with murder in death of 7-month-old son

Jaden Hearns, a 27-year-old man from Rockford, Illinois, faces murder charges after his 7-month-old son died from blunt force trauma. Police say Hearns was alone with the baby when it became unresponsive on Sunday morning. Hearns gave changing accounts of the incident, including that the child woke him while he played video games.

Police responded to a call about an unresponsive infant at Hearns' home in Rockford on Sunday morning. The baby was rushed to a hospital but died the same day from blunt force trauma, according to court documents. An autopsy revealed two skull fractures, multiple rib fractures, and a broken femur on the child, who had been asleep until around 3:45 a.m. that day. Hearns initially claimed he had no idea what happened to his son, later saying the crying baby woke him during a video gaming session. He also mentioned having a poor memory and sense of time, police said in court filings obtained by local CBS affiliate WIFR.
