Timnas Indonesia opened the AFF Cup 2026 with a 5-1 win over Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor on 27 July 2026. Mitchell Baker scored a hat-trick in the Group A match.
John Herdman's squad led 3-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Baker and Sandy Walsh. Baker scored three goals with assists from Thom Haye and Eliano Reijnders.
Herdman said he would rotate players for the match against Timor-Leste on 31 July 2026. He described the move as necessary to maintain squad fitness amid a busy schedule.
PSSI chairman Erick Thohir said the win over Cambodia was not enough. He noted the match against Vietnam on 3 August would be the real test for the team.
Goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata, returning after three years, called the game a special moment despite an error during the match.
