Insomniac Games unveiled over seven minutes of gameplay for Marvel's Wolverine during a State of Play presentation on June 2. The footage highlights extreme violence and introduces Jean Grey as a supporting character. The single-player action game remains scheduled for release on September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
The gameplay sequence depicts Wolverine rescuing kidnapped mutants from a guarded base. He performs graphic attacks including claw strikes through faces and dismemberment that produce large amounts of blood. Developers Marcus Smith and Mike Daly stated that the mature content aligns with the character's core traits. They added accessibility options to disable dynamic blood, dismemberment, and blur certain violent animations. Wolverine features real-time regeneration of localized wounds on both the protagonist and enemies. A rage-based second-life mechanic allows recovery after fatal damage, followed by a period of vulnerability. Jean Grey appears to assist with her powers during the mission. Insomniac also confirmed Mystique and Sabretooth as additional characters in the game.
