Pirates right-hander Jared Jones left Sunday's game against the Rockies after taking a comebacker to his right elbow. Pittsburgh held on for an 8-6 victory at Coors Field despite the early exit.
Jones screamed in pain after the 87.9 mph liner struck him in the third inning. He had thrown 45 pitches and did not return. Initial imaging showed no major damage, and he will be reevaluated Monday in Pittsburgh.
The 24-year-old had returned from right UCL surgery on May 29. Team medical staff noted the ball missed a lower spot on the elbow that could have shattered bone. Manager Don Kelly said the incident triggered worst-case thoughts but added that reports now sound positive.
Yohan Ramírez replaced Jones and helped stabilize the game. Nick Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Bryan Reynolds added a three-run shot as the Pirates built a lead. The win salvaged the series finale for Pittsburgh.
