Justice revokes goalkeeper Bruno's conditional release after unauthorized trip to Acre

Following a February summons to formalize his conditional release, the Penal Executions Court in Rio de Janeiro ordered the arrest of goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza on Thursday (5) for violating conditions by traveling to Acre without permission.

Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza, sentenced to 23 years and one month for qualified homicide, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and bodily injury in the 2010 murder of Eliza Samudio, had his conditional release—granted in January 2023 and recently subject to a formalization summons after he attended a Flamengo match at Maracanã on February 4—revoked. His sentence ends January 8, 2031.

The benefit became effective around February 11. However, just four days later on February 15, Bruno traveled from Rio de Janeiro to Acre without judicial authorization. There, he was hired by Vasco-AC, began training, was registered in the CBF's Daily Information Bulletin, and played in a Copa do Brasil match on February 19, where his team was eliminated on penalties. His stint ended quietly at month's end, as confirmed by coach Eric Rodrigues.

Judge Rafael Estrela Nóbrega, who issued the earlier summons, ruled that Bruno's actions demonstrated disregard for the benefit. 'Only four days after the effective date of the conditional release, the inmate went to the state of Acre without prior authorization from this court,' he wrote, ordering a return to the semi-open regime.

Bruno's defense, led by lawyer Lúcio Adolfo, has not responded to recent media inquiries. Prior filings claimed compliance with court conditions.
