Kamil Majchrzak defeated Alex de Minaur 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5) to claim his maiden ATP title at the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The 30-year-old Polish player described the victory as an emotional milestone following his return from a doping suspension.
Majchrzak, who turned professional 13 years ago, overcame World No. 6 de Minaur in the final. He thanked his team and family in a post-match interview, saying he would try not to cry during the emotional moment.
The win marks Majchrzak as only the third Polish player to secure an ATP title in the Open Era, joining Wojtek Fibak and Hubert Hurkacz. He had returned to competition in December 2023 after a 13-month ban imposed by the ITIA in 2022 for a doping violation.
Majchrzak reached a career-high ranking of No. 53 earlier this year. His path to the title included upsets over Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev.
