Local authorities and school administration have not issued a report on the cause of the unrest, which remains unclear, nor whether any property was damaged. Several months earlier, students staged a similar walkout claiming a teacher had assaulted a colleague. This incident adds to a rising number of school disruptions linked to student unrest since the start of the year. Two months prior, the Ministry of Interior announced a crackdown in 15 counties, including Kericho, Nandi, Nakuru, Kitui, Tharaka Nithi, Kakamega, Narok, Kisii, Nyeri, Nyamira, Kajiado, Migori, Kirinyaga, Trans Nzoia, and Nairobi. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo made the announcement on February 4 following a meeting chaired by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. The ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Education to monitor the situation, respond to emergencies, and address property destruction. 'Security agencies continue to act firmly to address evolving risks nationwide, with focus on addressing emerging school unrest reported in several counties to ensure that learning continues seamlessly,' the ministry stated. These issues were part of the State of Security briefing for January 2026 presented by Omollo.
