MP Katja Nyberg has revoked her consent to stand for Ambition Sverige in the parliamentary election. The move follows her January expulsion from the Sweden Democrats after a positive drug test.
In an email sent 10 July 2026 to the county administrative board in Sörmland, Katja Nyberg withdrew her candidacy for Ambition Sverige. She is currently an independent MP and also serves on Flen municipal council.
Nyberg was recruited to the Sweden Democrats from the police in 2018. After being stopped by police between Christmas and New Year 2025 and testing positive for narcotics, the party expelled her in late January 2026. She chose to keep her parliamentary seat as an independent. In April she appeared on Ambition Sverige’s candidate list, but now withdraws without stating a reason.
Nyberg faces charges of drunk driving, drug offense and gross unauthorized driving. She has denied most of the allegations but admitted the unauthorized-driving charge; the trial is scheduled to begin in September.
