SHL team Linköping HC has fired its sports director Peter Jakobsson following a poor season. The club currently sits in 12th place in the standings and has lost five of its last six games. Club director Carl-Johan Stålhammar describes the decision as the best path forward.
Linköping HC, a team in the Swedish ice hockey league SHL, has decided to fire sports director Peter Jakobsson. The decision comes after the team has failed to rise from the bottom of the table despite several high-profile signings in recent seasons. Currently, Linköping is in 12th place, two points from a playoff spot and six points above the relegation line.
The team has endured a tough stretch recently, losing five of its last six games. Club director Carl-Johan Stålhammar explained the decision on the club's website: “We have made a collective assessment that this is the best way forward for LHC.” Jakobsson, reacting to the news, said: “It’s a sad and disappointing message to receive, as I have done everything I can to achieve success here in Linköping.”
The club states that it is working on an interim solution for the role in the coming period. This is an attempt to reverse the negative trend and improve the team's performance in the league.
