Funk singer Mc Tuto, real name Emerson Teixeira Muniz, was arrested in flagrante on the early morning of January 24, 2026, after hitting 20-year-old Gabriel Luiz Berrelhas Alves with a Porsche while filming a video clip in a pedestrian-only area in Barueri, Greater São Paulo. Police determined the vehicle was traveling at a speed incompatible with the location, amounting to attempted homicide. The victim is hospitalized in serious condition with multiple fractures.
Emerson Teixeira Muniz, artistically known as Mc Tuto, 25, rose to fame in São Paulo's funk scene with hits like 'Barbie', earning a 2025 Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese-Language Urban Interpretation. On the early morning of January 24, 2026, around 1 a.m., the singer was driving a Porsche on Avenida Guilherme Perereca Guglielmo in central Barueri, an area exclusively for pedestrian leisure between the two lanes of the road, in front of the José Correa gymnasium.
Mc Tuto and his team, including advisors, a photographer, videomaker, and extras, were filming a video clip without permission from the Municipal Traffic Department for vehicle circulation in the area. According to the Civil Police report, the singer claimed he was going about 30 km/h when he felt an impact and realized he had hit a young man. A model in the vehicle corroborated the low-speed account.
However, after analyzing the accident dynamics and local videos, Delegate Leonardo Rocha Vieira concluded the Porsche was traveling at a speed 'absolutely incompatible with the road,' assuming the risk of causing serious injuries or death, which constituted eventual intent. The case was registered as attempted homicide and vehicle location and seizure at the Barueri Headquarters Police Station. Forensic exams were requested from the Criminalistics Institute and the Medical Legal Institute.
Gabriel Luiz Berrelhas Alves was rescued unconscious by the Municipal Civil Guard's rescue team and taken to Sameb Central Hospital, where he remains in intensive care. He suffered fractures in both legs, ribs, and skull fissures. The family stated the young man will undergo surgery, with updates only through official statements.
In a custody hearing at the São Paulo Court of Justice, the flagrante arrest was converted to preventive detention, without bail, due to the crime's severity, with a penalty exceeding four years. Mc Tuto's defense, via statement, said it will take appropriate legal measures and that the artist regrets the incident, expressing solidarity with the victim and family.
